Have been making this recipe for over 20 years, everyone loves it!
Put the dates and baking soda into small bowl and pour the boiling water over them. Let cool.
Cream butter/marg/oil and sugar; add beaten eggs. Mash the bananas and add to the creamed mixture. Mix the flour and baking powder. Add the creamed mixture along with the prepared date mixture and the walnuts.
Pour into greased loaf pan (or line with parchment paper) and bake for 60 - 70 minutes in 350 F oven.
