Mix the butter, sugar, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and bananas very well. Then add the flour and baking soda and salt. Finally add the nuts or wait and just sprinkle nuts on top before baking. Let mixture sit at room temp for 30 mins then fill 3/4 full and bake at 325 for 15-20 mins. If doing banana bread then it will fill 2 bread pans and cooks for 45-1 hr at 325. For the bread you can put the streusel on before the oven if you are really good about buttering/flouring the pan so it will fall out with little shaking or effort. Take out of the oven when edges are golden brown. You can mix the wet ingredients and have it sit in the fridge over night. You can add the strussel and or glaze. Make the glaze as thick as you want.
