This basic recipe is super easy and tastes, oh, so homemade. It's great for holidays, events, or picnics. And while most recipes for baked beans use white beans, try pinto beans for a hearty flavor.
Rinse beans and soak overnight. Drain beans and rinse. Boil beans for 1 hour until tender. Drain.
In a 9x12 baking dish, add all ingredients except the beans. Mix until uniform.
Add beans and mix thoroughly. Bake at 400 F for 45 minutes until browned and slightly dry.
Optional ingredients:
Customize the basic recipe to your family's tastes by using any combination of the following add-ins.
2-3 tbsp dry mustard
2-3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsp minced garlic
Red bell pepper, chopped fine
2 jalapeƱos, chopped
2 banana peppers, chopped
1 tsp cayenne pepper
My favorite add-ins are Worcestershire and jalapeƱos, which guarantees it will be spicy hot!
