Suggest a better descriptionRemove fat & gristle from meat. Cut meat into 2.5cm ( 1 inch ) pieces. Heat butter & oil in frying pan, add small quantity of meat to pan, brown well on all sides. Remove meat from pan, repeat process until all meat is well browned.
Add peeled & sliced onions & sliced mushrooms to pan, saute gently for 3 minutes, remove from pan.
Add extra butter and flour to pan, stir until flour is golden brown, remove pan from heat. Add wine, water, crumbled stock cubes, tomato paste, salt & pepper, stir until combined.
Return pan to heat, stir until sauce boils & thickens. Return meat, onions & mushrooms to pan, bring to boil, reduce heat, simmer covered for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
Serve sour cream separately.
