Cook bacon in large skillet; remove to Crock Pot. Brown beef cubes well; remove to Pot. Brown sliced carrot and onion, season with Salt & Pepper; stir in flour and add broth slowly and mix well. Add to Pot with wine, tomato paste and seasonings.
Cook on low 8 hours; add mushrooms last hour then thicken with 1/4 C flour added to 2 T butter, rolled into pea sized balls. Turn to high to thicken gravy, about 10 minutes
