In a skillet brown ground beef then drain excess fat. Add onion and continue cooking until onion is soft. Dump mixture into a 3-quart casserole. Stir in cheese and cooked noodles (or elbow macaroni); cover with tomato juice. Stir in sugar and season to taste.
Bake uncovered at 350 for 15 minutes; stir gently then bake another 15 minutes. If casserole is too soupy continue baking until thickened. Enjoy.
