Cream sugar and shortening. Add beaten egg. Add sifted flour, salt, soda and cinnamon alternately with milk starting with dry ingredients. Add vanilla, raisins and or nuts and fold in the oatmeal. Drop by spoon on greased pans. Bake about 10 minutes or until browned.
Note: May leave out raisins or nuts or can leave out both if don't want them.
