A hearty dish of lasagna that is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters.
Prepare lasagna noodles as directed on package. Preheat oven to 350 F. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown meat and drain. Return meat to skillet and add onion, cooking until onion is tender. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, water and seasonings. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. In a 9 x 13 inch baking dish, layer 3 noodles across the bottom. Spread 1/3 of the meat sauce, mozzarella cheese, Velveeta and Parmesan cheese on top of the noodles. Layer 3 more noodles on top of this mixture and repeat with half of the remaining sauce and cheeses. Layer the last 3 noodles on top and cover with the remaining sauce and cheeses. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before serving.
Another way to prepare this dish is to layer half of the sauce and cheese on top of the bottom layer, and sandwich the remaining sauce and cheese between the middle and top layer of noodles. From my experience, this method dries out the top layer of noodles and the dish ends up being a little chewy. This was always a hit in our home when my mom prepared it, and it continues to be so with my family now.
