Add the first 8 ingredients to your blender and pulse for 10 seconds. Then add frozen fruit and blend completely using smoothie cycle on the Blendtec. Splitting it up helps the blender handle the frozen stuff better and prevents jamming. Vitamix blenders also work well. Other blenders may not make the texture as smooth.
You can store the other half of the smoothie in the fridge for the next day. Substituting other fruits and greens works well. This recipe is very versatile. You can also skip the orange and replace some of the water with orange juice. But that increases the sugar content and decreases the fiber. Smoothies with bananas don't taste as good the next day. The avocado provides a healthy fat and gives the smoothie a creamy texture. I recommend buying a large bag of greens that are pre-washed and cut and then keeping them in the freezer. Coscto has a great "Power Greens" option in the fridge section made up of chard, spinach, and kale.
Except for the water, I don't actually measure any of the ingredients when I make this. I just dump and shake things in, changing it up based on the greens and fruit I have. It always seems to turn out great!
This smoothie is great to pair with eggs and whole-grain toast or hot breakfast cereal, like oatmeal, Bob Mill's 10 grain, or Farro.
Use a high quality blender, such as a Blendtec or Vitamix.
