Cherry Bon Bon Cookies. A soft dough surrounding a marachino cherry, topped with a thick icing and sprinkles. My mom and grandma Lu make these at Christmas time.

Mix margarine, sugar and vanilla. Blend in flour and salt thoroughly "with hands". Wrap level Tbsp of dough around 1 cherry. (roll in hands until smooth and round. Bake 1 inch apart on un-greased baking sheet at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Bake until set not brown. Dip tops of warm cookies in icing. Makes approximately 20 cookies.
ICING: Mix 1 Cup of powdered sugar with 2 TBS of milk and 1 tsp of vanilla. Add a drop of red food coloring (should appear pink after mixing.) After you frost cookie sprinkle with pink or red sprinkles.
I often use vanilla or amaretto coffee creamer instead of milk. It makes the frosting thicker and it's yummy.
