1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 round cake pans.
2. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs reserving 1 T. to brush on top. Stir in almond extract.
3. Combine flour and baking powder. Batter will be stiff.
4. Press evenly into pans. Scatter sliced almonds over top and press into the dough. Brush with reserved eggs.
5. Bake for 30 min. or until golden brown. Cut into wedges.
