Suggest a better descriptionWhisk together sauce ingredients until combined:
5 cloves garlic, apple juice, soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, 1/4 cup water, honey, red pepper flakes, and ginger.
Place chicken in slow cooker and pour sauce over the top. Cover the cooker and cook on high for 3 hours.
Remove chicken and shred it. Pour remaining sauce through a strainer into a medium pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
Create a slurry by whisking cornstarch and 3 tablespoons water together until smooth, then stir into boiling sauce, along with 2 teaspoons grated garlic. Reduce heat and stir until sauce is thickened. When desired thickness is reached, pour over chicken and serve hot. Taste to see if salt and pepper are needed.
Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
If serving with rice, it's better with white rice (not brown).
