In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in water. Let stand 10 minutes. Add salt, oil and 4 cups flour; beat well. Stir in the remaining flour (I used about 1 cup LESS flour), 1/2 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Knead for 6 minutes. Cover and let rise for 40 minutes. Divide dough into 8 pieces and shape into round balls. Grease baking sheet and sprinkle with cornmeal. Place dough on top. Cover and let rise for 35 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a small bowl, mix egg white and 1 T. water. Brush loaves with half egg wash. Bake for fifteen minutes, brush with remaining egg mixture and bake 10-15 minutes longer, or until golden. Cool on wire racks.
