In a mixing bowl, beat eggs with a whisk. Stir in sugar, maple syrup, salt, vanilla, amaretto, half & half and nutmeg until combined. Butter a 9 x 13 baking dish. Place bread cubes in dish and sprinkle with the raisins. Pour custard over bread and let stand to soak for 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Dot the top of the dish with the butter, cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar. Turn oven to broil, and broil until top of bread is caramelized and golden.
While bread pudding is baking, make the rum sauce. In a small bowl, stir together melted butter, rum, powdered sugar and milk. Pour over individual servings of bread pudding or serve on the side.
