Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cocoa. Add milk, vanilla and shortening; mix until smooth. Add nut meats. Pour into greased 8-inch square cake pan. Mix brown sugar and cocoa; sprinkle over batter. Pour hot water over entire batter. Bake. Temperature--350 F. Time--45 minutes.
