Trim any fat from chicken and cut into bite size pieces. Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Cook on high 4-6 hours, low 7-8 hours
To prepare on stovetop, place chicken, water and salt in Dutch oven. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 40 minutes or until juices run clear. Skim fat from broth. Remove chicken from broth, cut into bite size pieces, return to broth. Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling, reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 45 minutes. Remove whole tomatoes if desired.
