These doughnuts are slightly sweet and a little spicy. My mom would make a couple dozen of these to take with us on vacation to eat while on the road and while at the beach. We always looked forward to this treat at vacation time.
Cream eggs and sugar. Add milk and shortening. Combine and sift flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture and blend well. Dough may be chilled until it is easy to handle. Roll on floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness and cut to doughnut shapes. Brown on one side then turn and brown on the other. Oil temperature should be as close to 385 degrees as possible. Cook time suggestion is 3 minutes.
