Cream butter and cream cheese until smooth. Mix in caramel sauce, and heavy cream. Add vanilla. Mix in confectioner sugar a little at a time until desired consistency and sweetness.
I use the basic caramel from my caramel glaze recipe also listed on this site. I make sure it is cooled and thickened before adding it to the cream cheese mixture in this recipe.
