Butter and flour a 13x9x2 inch pan.
Sift together sugar, flour, soda, salt, and cinnamon.
Stir in oil with a fork.
Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Add carrots, nuts and vanilla, mixing thoroughly.
Pour into cake pan and bake for 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Cool in pan.

Combine butter, cream cheese, and vanilla.
Gradually add icing sugar and mix with beaters until smooth and creamy.
Spread cake with icing.
