wonderful challah bread made in quantities for a bread machine greatly simplifies the entire process!!
great for smaller bread machines that cant handle 5 or 6 cups of flour :-) and this recipe uses COPIOUS amounts of honey. oh yah!
challah bread is a derivative of sweet dinner rolls, primarily the addition of honey to the recipe, and often cooked in braids to make it easier to break off by hand.
Add all the items in the "hot melted mix" ingredients section--the butter, honey, water, sugar, salt, milk, and eggs--and mix in a bowl. Then place in microwave for 1 minute. Mix again until butter melted and mixture is mixed. another minute in microwave if needed to ensure everything is combined and melted. (max 2 minutes in microwave).
Pour into bread machine.
Add flour on top, then yeast on top of flour.
Set for normal dough rise.
Can double rise (proof) if you like :-)
When rolling out dough it is common to braid the challah bread into a loaf for easy pickings.
this can be done by roughly cutting dough into 3 sections, then rolling into 16 inch long peices as needed.
The dough can then be brushed with olive oil, butter, or egg whites as you like.
makes approximately 12 peices.
Better than sweet dinner rolls becuase it has honey!
:-)
bake at 375 for approx 25 minutes or as needed to your liking :-)
best bread youll ever have.
thanks to KerriBridges for original recipe!!
adjust flour as necessary, 3.25 to 3.5 cups may be needed according to the dough consistency you like.
