This is essentially a simple white sauce with American cheese added.
Melt butter and add flour and salt. Add the milk slowly with constant stirring to prevent forming lumps. Stir constantly over medium-high heat until it thickens. Remove from heat and add cheese heating as needed to melt the cheese and maintain temperature.
