Has become a family favorite for breakfast! Quick and easy if you use pre-cooked frozen sausage crumbles. This is also the place to use good, slow cooking grits.
Spray slow cooker insert with non-stick spray. Add the soup and stir in the chicken broth and milk. Gradually stir in the grits to prevent any lumps from forming. Add all remaining ingredients.
Cover and cook on low for 4 hours. If you get a chance, stir a few times the last 2 hours. Before serving, stir well. Serve with hot sauce.
It may seem odd to use the pre-cooked sausage crumbles or cut up pre-cooked patties but not only are they easy and you can have them in the freezer, but I have found them to taste better. Surprisingly, America's Test Kitchen did as well. Besides, 10 ounces cooked is pretty much what you get when cooking 16 oz of uncooked.
Full recipe works in slow cookers from 4 to 6 quarts, a 1/2 recipe is perfect in one of the small 2 quart cookers you can get for $10.
Sometimes the grits wills stick a little towards the end of the cooking time, if your slow cooker has a timer, set it to end a little early and finish on warm if you have a few hours until you are ready to eat.
