Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Wash, peel and quarter potatoes. Put potatoes in large saucepan and cover with water. Cook over medium heat until soffened. Drain water and place potatoes in mixing bowl.
Add stick of butter or margarine and allow to melt a little. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, egg, salt and nutmeg. Mix together with electric mixer to a smooth consistency. Add sour cream and mix in.
Transfer to a buttered 9" X 13" baking dish. Bake for 35 minutes until bubbly around edges.
Top with chopped pecan peices, if desired, and bake an additional 10 minutes until browned.? Optional
