Heat oven to 350. Cream butter, margerine, sugar together. Add eggs and flavorings and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Mix until smooth. Save back 1/4 of batter and spread rest (it will be thick) into greased 11x17 pan. Spread pie filling over entire crust layer. Spoon remaining batter in "islands" over cherry layer. Bake for 45 min. After cooling, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
