Preheat over to 325 degrees
Line a cookie sheet with non-stick aluminum foil
Place crackers, salty side up, side by side on sheet
Melt butter (I pop it in the microwave for a minute or so) and then pour the sugar into the melted butter
Stir vigorously and immediately pour butter/sugar mixture over the crackers. You want a fairly even spread of sugar across all your crackers so as stir as you pour. I use a basting brush to make sure each cracker is completely covered and saturated.
Place cookie sheet in oven and bake for 8-12 minutes (or until golden brown)
While your crackers are baking, chop the nuts (I find placing them in a plastic baggie and hitting them with a heavy object does the trick, a food processor makes them too small for my liking). :-)
Take your crackers out of the oven and with your basting brush, put them back in their side-by-side spots (they will shift a little in baking and you want them to be an even, flat sheet).
Pour the chocolate chips over the top as evenly as you can. As they melt, take a plastic spoon or spatula and start spreading the chocolate over the crackers, covering every inch, making sure your end result is a flat sheet of crackers covered in chocolate.
Sprinkle the chopped nuts across the top and refrigerate for a few hours (I usually do this overnight).
When ready to serve, take out peel the aluminum foil off the bottom, and break into several pieces.
Try graham crackers or other square-ish crackers for variant flavors and textures.
