Combine chocolate chips and shortening in a large microwave-safe bowl & microwave for 90 seconds. Stir, and if not melted, cook another 15 seconds.
Hold pretzels by one end & leave 1-2 inches uncovered. Dip pretzels & lay on baking sheet. Sprinkle with topping while still wet. If using white chocolate, dip a fork into the melted white chocolate and drizzle over the pretzels.
Put trays in refrigerator or freezer to set (about 30 minutes).
