The classic Italian cookie passed from Aunt Vi to my Grandma Aurora, reworked into a chocolate orange variety. Grandma always made the traditional anise flavor and sometimes almond, but the recipe card given to me gives options for a lemon or orange cookie. I decided to try chocolate orange instead and it turned out better than I had hoped.
Beat eggs and blend in sugar, oil, and butter. Add orange juice and zest to wet ingredients. Mix together flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder, then gradually add it to the wet ingredients.
Pour about one tablespoon of batter onto pizelle iron and bake for 30-40 seconds, or until desired doneness. Cool flat on cooling rack or roll into a cone for waffle ice cream cones.
