Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy.
In separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa, soda and salt.
With mixer on low speed, blend dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Stir in peanut butter chips and nuts (optional).
Drop by teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool cookies one minute on baking sheet before removing to a wire rack to cool.
Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
