Delicious chocolate and peanut butter oatmeal bars that taste great as well as make a hearty snack.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine shortening, brown sugar, oats, and corn syrup. Blend well.
Spread and press mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 10 minutes or until light golden brown.
Remove from oven to cool.
Frosting: In a small saucepan, melt peanut butter and chocolate chips over a low heat.
Spread over oatmeal base mixture and let cool before cutting.
Note: If the frosting is lumpy, melt 1/4 to 1/2 cup of butter or margarine into the mix of chocolate and peanut butter.
I recommend letting these bars cool, but not refrigerating them. They taste great when they are warm, but not hot enough to crumble!
