Preheat oven to 375F. Grease and flour two cake pans.
Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Mix well. Add vanilla, salt & cocoa.
Sift together flour, soda and powder. Alternately add flour and water to sugar/butter mixture. Fold in sauerkraut.
Pour into pans. Bake 35-45 minutes.
Frost with mocha, sour cream or cream cheese icing.
