Beat shortening, butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and extracts, beating until blended. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to butter mixture. Cover and chill dough. Shape into 1 inch balls. Roll balls in 1/4 cup sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 9 minutes or until barely golden. Let cool 2 minutes on cookie sheets. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Yield: about 5.5 dozen.
