The day before serving, boil 2 cups water and 2 cups sugar for 5 minutes. Place in the refrigerator in an airtight container, along with 6 to 8 sprigs of mint; refrigerate overnight. To serve, fill a cup (silver julep if you have one, a glass if you don't) with crushed ice, then add 1 Tbsp of the mint syrup and 4 Tbsp of whiskey. Stir rapidly, garnish with fresh mint, and enjoy - preferable while sporting a wide-brimmed hat.
