Suggest a better descriptionHeat oven to 350? F. Grease a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Combine sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy. Blend in banana. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add to banana mixture; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Fold in walnuts. Spoon batter into greased pan. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack. Makes 1 loaf. Notes: Editors hint: My Mom taught me to save old bananas in the freezer to make banana bread later. They dont look very good, but they make great bread!
