Suggest a better descriptionMix flour, 2/3 cup sugar and salt, gradually add milk. Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and boils. Cook 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Watch very carefully so it doesn't burn.
Add small amount to egg yolks. Stir into remaining hot mixture. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in coconut, add butter, vanilla. Cool.
Cover with meringue made of egg whites and 6 tablespoons of sugar. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup coconut. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 12 - 15 minutes. Watch carefully so meringue does not get too brown or burn.
