Just right to go with a yummy bowl of soup.
Mix meal, flour, salt, sugar, bread (broken into pieces) and baking powder. Pour hot water over ingredients. Beat eggs into half of milk and add to mixture. Add rest of milk if needed to stir well. Pour batter into well greased 8x8 baking dish. Melt Crisco and spread over batter. Bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown. If fork comes out clean, it is done.
During baking, the Crisco may run over pan. To prevent a mess, place a baking sheet under the pan.
