Boil onion and potatoes in water with salt, untill soft and tender (about 30 minutes). Reduce heat to low, (do not drain). Add remaning ingerdients except for butter. Continue cooking for 15-20 minutes or until warm (do not boil); stir frequently. Add butter & pepper to taste. Continue cooking until butter is melted.
Serve hot.
