Microwave the bacon until crispy. Add some of the bacon grease to a microwave safe container. Add the chopped onion and cook until tender. Transfer the onions and the cooked bacon to a 2-qt. batter bowl or similar container.
Add the potatoes and water and microwave on high, covered for 12 minutes, stirring after 6 minutes. Add the salt, basil, cream style corn and evaporated milk. Microwave until serving temperature.
