Combine dry ingredients together. Whisk until blended.
Combine sugar, melted butter, eggs together. Whisk until glossy and smooth, then add some in buttermilk and whisk until combined.
Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Don’t over-mix!!! Only stir until flour just disappears. You want to leave some lumps in the mix.
Pour cornbread batter into greased 8x8 pan and spread evenly.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 35-40 minutes (golden brown on edges and toothpick inserted into middle comes out clean).
Let cool, then turn upside down to get it out of the pan. Cut into squares (tic-tac-toe cuts) and enjoy!
