Sift together all ingredients. Add 1 cup shortening (if you use butter or marg, use 1/2 cup milk) and 3/4 cup milk and two eggs. Beat two minutes on low speed. Then add 2 more unbeaten eggs, Mix one more minute. Add vanilla. Bake 1 hour at 375 F, in greased and floured 9 in tube.
