1. Mix together the dates, brown sugar, water, cornstarch and vanilla over medium heat until the consistency is like a paste
2. Preheat oven to 350. Make the butter into cream. Mix together the remaining ingredients and then add to butter, mixing well.
3. Spread half the mixture on the bottom of an 8"x8" baking dish and heat for 10 minutes at 350.
4. Add the date mixture and the other half of the dry mixture and bake for 25-30 minutes at 375.
