Salt & pepper ribs, dredge in flour. Brown in Crisco shortening until golden on all sides. Layer ribs, kraut, onion and brown sugar, repeat. Add about 1/2 jar water. Bring to boil, then simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Adjust brown sugar after tasting broth. Make a large amount of mashed potatoes while simmering this. Serve over potatoes.
