Brown sausage and beef in a deep skillet (with a lid for later use).
Remove meat with a slated spoon to a bowl.
Brown vegetables and garlic until transparent and soft in the meat drippings.
Return meat to skillet.
Add rice to mixture and brown for 2-3 minutes.
Add broth and bring to a boil.
Taste broth to determine need for salt and pepper. Add to taste.
Cover dish and simmer on low for 20 minutes.
