Put first 3 (dry) ingredients in the mixing bowl.
Put all of the remaining ingredients in a measuring cup.
Slowly add the liquids to the dry ingredients.
Beat for 4 minutes or longer at medium to medium high speed. It does not hurt to over beat this cake but the cake will fall if under beaten.
Bake at 325 degrees for approximately 1 hour.
Touch center of cake with your finger to see if it is done. If cake bounces back it is done. If a finger print is left give cake a few minutes; check again.
For a white cake use a white cake mix and Vanilla or French Vanilla instant pudding mix, Chocolate cake use chocolate instant pudding mix, Lemon cake use lemon instant pudding mix and so on. If you cannot match the flavor of the cake mix and the instant pudding mix use vanilla or French vanilla instant pudding mix.
Experiment with flavors. Use a carrot cake mix with French vanilla instant pudding mix. Just before putting cake batter in pan slowly fold in fresh grated carrots. Put nuts and marshmallows in a chocolate cake. Marshmallows will melt but taste very much like rocky road.
You can create just about any flavor cake you would like from these ingredients. Pistachio: Use a white or yellow cake mix, pistachio pudding mix and pistachio oil to help with the pistachio taste. Candy oils can be used as flavoring when an extract is not available.
