Beat together shortening, sugars, egg, water and vanilla until creamy. Stir together flour, salt, and soda; add to creamed mixture; blend. Stir in oats. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in preheated 350-degree F oven for 12-15 minutes.
You can add raisins and cinnamon if you MUST (but I think they're SO much better without).
