combine all of the ingredients in saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce to medium low and simmer until the sauce has thickened slightly, 10-15 minutes.
Pour the sauce through fine mesh strainer into a bowl to remove pieces of chopped onion and minced garlic.
Adjust seasoning to taste. Use immediately, or store for up to a week in refigerator.
