My favorite recipe for split pea soup that I've been making for years
In large kettle mix peas, ham bone, onion, bouillon, 8 cups water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Bring to a boil, Cover, reduce heat and simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring often. Remove ham bone, dice meat, return meat to soup. add carrot and celery. Simmer 30 minutes, stir in bacon, cream and butter; heat through.
you may wish to hold the salt until soup is completed as the ham adds saltiness
