Dissolve gelatin in 1/4 cup of cold water (4-5 mins.) Heat the whipping cream with the sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Add the gelatin mixture to the cream and sugar, and continue to heat the mixture until the gelatin has dissolved.
In a separate bowl, add the vanilla to the sour cream and mix well using a hand whip.
Next, combine the sugar/cream mixture and the sour cream mixture. Finally, pour this mixture into either one large serving bowl or individual serving dishes. I like to use wine glasses. Serve with your choice of berries.
The amount of French Cream you end up will appear to be inadequate for serving ten people. However, it's very rich.
