Suggest a better descriptionOver medium heat melt butter in large pot. Add Onions. Cook down till they begin to caramelize and add salt and sugar. Scrape bottom of pan frequently to prevent burning. Process should take a while(1-2 hours).
After onions are cooked down and a nice caramel color Add flour and stir for several minutes to avoid clumping.
Slowly add water and scrape remainder of bits off bottom of pot. Add water, bouillon cubes, wine and bay leaves.
To serve ladle into bowls add parmasian cheese to soup, top with toasted french bread and Munster or Swiss Cheese. Broil to golden brown and serve.
