Suggest a better descriptionMix sugar, shortening, and eggs together thoroughly. Stir in sour milk and fruit. Sift together and stir in flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Blend in nuts. Pour into well greased 9 x 5 x 3” loaf pan. Line bottom of pan with wax paper. Let stand 20 min. before baking. Bake at 350° for 50 -60 min., until loaf tests done with toothpick. Serve warm or cold. Note: 2 times recipe = 3 - 7 x 3” loaves. Cook 50 min.
Applesauce Loaf: Use key recipe, except use brown sugar, not white. Use applesauce in place of apple.
Omit sour milk.
Orange-Date Loaf: Use key recipe, except omit sour milk. In place of apple, use juice and pulp of 1 orange
plus enough water to make 1 cup. Add 1 cup cut up dates.
Banana Loaf: Use key recipe, except use 1 cup mashed banana instead of apple. Mash with fork or
blender.
Prune Loaf: Use key recipe, except omit sour milk. Use 3/4 cup prune juice, 1 cup cooked & cut up
prunes instead of apple. Add 2 tsp. grated Lemon rind.
