USE WOODEN SPOON! Preheat oven to 325 F. Grease and flour loaf pans.
Cream sugar and lard or shortening.
Add eggs, jam, salt in order listed, stirring each in separately.
Mix soda into water, add to above ingredients
Fold in flour a little at a time
Stir in nuts.
Fold in sour milk until smooth
Stir in cocoa
Stir in dates, then raisins, then fruitcake mix.
Fill pans about 2/3 full
Bake approximately 1 hour (45 minutes for mini loaves) until a toothpiick comes clean
Cool in pan about 5 minutes, then remove onto cooling rack
When cool, sprinkle with fruit wine, wrap in cheescloth, then in foil
Refrigerate for two to three weeks
Before serving, decorate with candied fruit and nuts.
Best if using blackberry jam and blackberry wine. However any fruit jam or wine will do.
